Hi,
I recommend taking a look at
http://code.google.com/apis/base/phpdevguide.html#authentication.
That PHP developer's guide discusses ClientLogin and
inserting an items.
Also, the library has helper methods for inserting items so
you shouldn't have to write your own addBaseAttribute().
