On behalf of our Executive Director, I have been asked to evaluate school web platforms that can post grades, homework, and other data, but the proprietary ones are out of our price range and aren't really worth the upfront design and hosting costs they are asking. My thought is this: ...1) Explore doing a web school platform using Google Sites instead...I like all the integration possibilities and the in-the- clouds editing. 2) Shop for a Google Base guru who can work with us (with me actually) to: a) design relational database structure and b) design gadgets that I can embed on Google Sites pages for this "school web platform" - e.g. Parents could query the database with their special code to see grades, behavior reports, etc. via the gadget(s). 3) We also had an in-house MS Access client/server combined school records/case records application developed that is hosted behind our firewall. Perhaps Google Base "middleware" could make calls to specific fields to our existing investment..if this would cost less. Can anyone in this group help us...help these children and their families with a pre-school,K-6 web school platform that engages all the stakeholders?
