Try to debug what's the raw XML that gets sent, and also try to understand what's thexml response you get back. The response should contain the error message telling you why the items you try to insert are invalid.
If you know what XML you're sending, then use the demo-page for making such a request, and check the response. The errors are always returned and should give you a good description.
