The fact is that the Google Quota is making it very difficult for many
people to switch to Google Calendars. The current level may have been
adequate when Google Calendars was first released, but the reality today is
that many people have 25,000+ events in their calendars - and these "power
calendar users" are often so frustrated by quota problems that after days
(and sometimes weeks) of trying to move the last 10 years of their life to
Google Calendars they are forced to give up and use desktop software
instead.

Even with a calendar of 10,000 events, if a user uploads an iCal file to
Google (in fact several iCal files are needed, but that's another story for
another thread...) only to discover that their browser messed up the unicode
coding during the transfer, they have to delete and start again... only to
have the quota kick in and render their calendar account unusable for what
can be days - or even weeks. Nobody knows.

For individual users this is can be a big problem - but for developers who
are providing syncing/import services to Google Calendar it is a nightmare
as every day we have to explain to users why Google is making it so
difficult for them to use Google Calendars - without putting them off using
it!

So on behalf of all developers who have to deal with this issue I would like
to issue a plea (I know it's not the first) that someone at Google who
stumbles across this post please set in motion a process to increase the
existing Quota limits to reflect reality.

The previous policy that "if you hit the quota your calendar is too big" or
"you are not using the API correctly" ignores the fact that a great many
people DO have huge calendars and need to keep all the data intact: why is
10 Mb of iCal data considered unreasonably large, when Gmail gives us
7558MB... and counting!
