Alain, thank you for your response. 

I implemented the change you specified, and discovered that the 
repeatingEvent didn't have an id set yet. I had just created it and sent it 
off to be created on the server, but hadn't updated the local object with 
the new event it returned. Once I did that, I was able to get past that 
error. 

I was using repeatingEvent.getIcalUID() because it seemed to return the part 
of getId() that you used substring to extract with "@google.com" at the end. 
Is it better to use one versus the other?
