Hello Amanda,

You can create a Calendar Event and add the desired attendees to it as you
would normally do; then, you can set the
"gCal:sendEventNotifications<http://code.google.com/apis/calendar/data/2.0/reference.html#gCalsendEventNotifications>"
to "true" (there should be Getter/Setter for your client library) so that
attendees will receive an e-mail regarding this new event. In this e-mail,
they will be able to click on a link which will redirect them to the Google
Calendar interface for them to accept or decline the invitation.
However, you would still need to check the attendee's status to update your
database accordingly; 2 solutions:
  - Poll the events every N minutes and update the database.
  - Use a special user that would be invited to every events and set its
calendar to receive an e-mail notifications for every updates; you will then
have to parse the e-mail to check what kind of updates occurred.

I hope this helped!
Best,
Alain
