Sorry to zombie this thread, but last night I started getting the "Spanning Sync has encountered an error" while trying to sync. I noticed that my contacts and calendars were not updating which drew my attention to the error in settings (I don't use the menu bar icon). Did Google re-break Spanning Sync?
