That's quite a specific type of map pin you're looking for an, honestly, I doubt the API would ever support such a thing.
My suggestion would be to look at the google-maps-icons project (here: http://code.google.com/p/google-maps-icons/) and use their templates to build your own empty directional icons and then work on getting family crests into them. Time consuming, I know, but you could even script this in Photoshop to some effect.
