So I looked into the mask thing, which was crazy interesting, and I came
away with two thoughts.

1) If you can put your data/imagry under the licenses supported on
code.google.com, that seems fine by me.
2) I'd imagine if you rev-eng some of the mroe, ahem, prominant chips, we'll
likely get served wit ha dmca from the companies that made them. This is
fine, but you'll want to eitehr preparefor a backup host, or know how to do
a dmca counterclaim. I think that this is one of those areas of law that
will, through its obscurity, work weirdly for us all.

But , yeah, go for it. The worst that'll happen is you might be dmca'd off
the site.
