That's not true, and it's a little unkind. :-) Our problems are designed so that a pretty big range of modern computers can handle them. I've never had an '80s ZX-spectrum, but I bet they don't have a whole lot of RAM, and some of our problems need you to hold a bunch of data in memory. As for CUDA, maybe he just thinks it's cool and wants to try it out. The qualification round is a particularly good place to experiment with all sorts of languages.
