Ram, Try opening up old KickStart rounds and Code Jam Qualification Rounds, and try to do problem A on them. If you get stuck, you can read the problem analysis, or email this list. Just do that for a while until you get comfortable, then move on to harder problems. If you find you're lacking in knowledge for a lot of problems, practice can make up for that, but you might also look for a resource like CLRS to read.
