Thanks, but this does not answer my question.

Google has been auto-creating button definition files from the
available google gadgets and placing them in this directory:
http://www.google.com/gadgets/directory?synd=toolbar

My question is - can you edit the "GADGET XML DEFINTION" file and have
it be such that a custom button is generated when they convert the
gadget automatically.

This is different from the Button XML file.... I have no direct
control over the button xml file as it is being auto-generated by
google from my gadget files.
