There are different versions and applications to handle gadgets on Windows, Linux and Mac. On Windows the latest is Google Desktop 5.8 while on Linux the latest is Google Gadgets for LInux 0.10.2 and on Mac it is Google Gadgets 1.1 if I'm not mistaken. Featurewise the Linux version currently supports APIs of version 5.7 and Mac of 5.5 (someone correct me if I'm wrong here). So if you use any of the newer APIs the gadget will not work on the other platforms. The Linux version (Google Gadget for Linux) makes fast progress and should support the new features of 5.8 soon.I don't know the progress of the Mac version. If you want to be completely cross platform on Windows, Linux and Mac you should stick to basic features. If you want an advanced gadget you might want to think about supporting only Windows and Linux for now since they are closest feature-wise.
