Hello, I am trying to build a Google Desktop Gadget that displays a variable length quotation followed by an attribution line that is formatted differently than the quote.
Question: How do I get the attribution line to appear *immediately* below the bottom line of the quote? It is easy put the quote in a <label> with a fixed height set large enough to accommodate the longest expected quote. The attribution can be placed in a <label> that is absolutely positioned to appear below the quote label. However, if quote to display is short, there will be a lot of empty space between it's last line and the attribution. This is a problem. What I'd like to do is tell the quote label that its height should be just as tall as is necessary to display the quote, then tell the attribution label to position itself immediately below the bottom of the quote label. The closest I could come to achieving this was to put the quote into an <edit> element. By registering an onchange event handler on the edit element, I could change it's height to match it's idealBoundingRect property's height and then adjust the y location of the attribution <label> so that it was immediately below the quote. The catch with this approach is that the edit element's background is not transparent. I need a transparent background. Any ideas?
