Hello, you now need the tags <category>, <thumbnailUrl> and <screenshotUrl> in your gadget.gmanifest. Previously they were optional (category wasn't but wasn't enforced) but now they are required. Seems like the documentation is not yet updated for thumbnailUrl and screenshotUrl. I think one of the future designer releases will add these tags to the dialog as well. Until then you need to add them using a text editor as you did.
You should also check that your thumbnail and screenshot images are below the size limits. I'm not sure what they are at the moment. I think 12 KB for screenshot and 3 or 5 for thumb.
