I can't be the only one who took one look at the newly-announced
Google Web Elements (http://google.com/elements) and thought, "These
are gadgets." Looking at them as a gadget developer, there's not a one
that couldn't have been created quite easily using the Gadgets API in
open syndication - they just would have had a different iframe source.
In fact, several of them duplicate gadgets that already exist.

I find it puzzling that Google has developed a whole new framework for
this with a mature Gadgets already on hand - and at some level, it
makes me wonder how committed G is to the gadgets platform for the
future.

Just my $0.02.
