You're in the wrong group, really, but I know enough about the Desktop
Gadget API to say that it doesn't directly support what you're trying
to do. Desktop gadegts aren't really HTML&JS.

However, it is possible to use an iGoogle gadget to do this. You won't
be able to package it as a desktop gadget (it'll need to be installed
manually), but it is possible. Follow the instructions for making the
gadget here:
http://code.google.com/apis/gadgets/docs/legacy/fundamentals.html#Existing
Then install it on GDesktop.
