We have a similar problem.
A simple gadget that links into a portion of our site.
All the tests are positive.
* it is valid XML
* it passes the tests, apart for a warning for not localizing. No
errors.

Our thumbnail keeps disappearing. We uploaded more than once.

Initially, the gadget works. After uploading, the thumbnail is
visible. All is ok.
Wait a day or two, and the picture disappears.

Looking into the page source, it reveals that the link to our XML file
is the source of the IMG tag responsible for the thumbnail.
The XML file does not produce an image, so their is no picture.

We tried it three times. Every time we checked the syntax thoroughly.
And every time it works right after the upload.
And, again, every time it breaks after a while.

Could there be a problem on the Google side??
