This is not a question for this forum, as iGoogle gadget and theme 
developers have no control over this iGoogle feature. You would be better 
posting in the Web Search Help Forum where such matters have been discussed 
*ad nauseum*.

The iGoogle left navigation bar is an integral part of the iGoogle page. 
Anyone with more than one tab finds it invaluable. However, I agree that it 
is completely unnecessary IF you only have one tab on your iGoogle homepage 
and IF you don't use iGoogle chat. Even if you do use it, it takes up 
valuable screen real estate on smaller displays. But there's a solution for 
that too, once you dump Internet Explorer and graduate to a more useful 
browser like Firefox or Chrome. The add-on "iGoogle Tab Remover" hides the 
left navigation until it's needed.
