I was hoping that the condensed "Go to developer mode" form of the gadget was a bug, not a feature. It seems that the old format is used the first time that a user adds the "My Gadgets" gadget to iGoogle, but it flips into the condensed form at some point.
Also, Google's documentation still shows the old form of this gadget: http://code.google.com/apis/gadgets/docs/legacy/basic.html#DevModStart I'm sure I'm not the only developer who prefers the old format, or at least an explanation of why (and whether) Google stopped supporting the old format. At the least, can they add back the field for entering an .xml URL for testing a gadget? The "Add feed or gadget" feature in the Google Gadget directory doesn't usually work for me: I get a "Not found" error. What does work for me is entering the .xml URL in, ironically, the Gadget Directory page for the "My Gadgets" gadget (http://www.google.com/ig/ directory?type=gadgets&url=www.google.com/ig/modules/developer.xml) which inexplicably has an "Add a gadget" textbox in in place of the usual screenshot. Shabbily done, Google. I know you can do better than that. Dan.
