I should have enough experience of life and programming to know that claims
like-
Multiple sites

Your gadget can run on multiple sites and products including iGoogle, Gmail,
Calendar, Sites, Maps, orkut, or any webpage. Write your gadget once, and
with minor changes it can run in multiple places.

need to be taken with a pinch of salt but I am getting very confused by the
differences between all of the environments

Each environment seems to have subtle (and not so subtle) differences in
behaviour and a different documentation layout to further confuse this
issue!

Is there:

   - Any documentation that compares the differences and similarities
   between the gadget environments, including
      - How do I install a gadget for testing
      - How do I disable caching for testing purpose
      - How to submit to catalogue
      - What Views are available and default sizes
      - Is scrolling supported
      - Is UI to update Userprefs available
      - what ModulePrefs are accepted/ignored
      - which Features are supported
      - etc. etc ....
      - Ideally I envision a large table with summary information and links
      to the relevant detailed doc.
      - Any 'Best practice for portable gadgets' guidance available?
   - Any way to tell which environment I'm in if I do need specific code.
   - Is this the right forum for asking this sort of question?
