Dynamic Height in Gadgets is broken when Gadgets are embeded in 3rd part website and when the gadget is viewed in Firefox and IE. I escalated this to the president of Open Social, and per his advice posted the bug on the Shindig. But one of the Shindig developers that wrote (in part) the code for "Dynamic Height" concluded:
"Ah OK I see, but this is still some Google server rendering this gadget. Look at the src of the iFrame http://www-open-opensocial.googleusercontent.com/gadgets/ifr.... I have no idea what version of Shindig they are using to render the gadget. I tested the same gadget (http://hosting.gmodules.com/ig/gadgets/file/ 111426103828424840954/Test_2.xml) on a build of Shindig 3.0 from yesterday and the expand button works in Firefox 6.0.2. I am on a mac so I can't test on IE. There is nothing you have to do to the gadget, the problem is with the server rendering the gadget, in this case Google." A little more about this bug that started 2 months ago: First, if you want to check out the bug for yourself (there ar always some skeptics, especially since this feature works in other context): http://youfoot.weebly.com/ Try and click on Expand using IE or Firefox (it works in Safari and Chrome). The code used is a sample test code and is available just below the gadget. Nothing wrong with the way the function gadgets.window.adjustHeight() is used. Also if you try the same Gadget on iGoogle then the gadget will work on ALL browsers. It doesn't work when embeded on third party website with IE and Firefox. If you run this code in Google Gadget Checker to debug it it shows that the API is called but it doesn't see the function! Gadget Checker is available here: http://www.google.com/ig/adde?moduleurl=www.google.com/ig/modules/codechecker/codechecker.xml The error returned is: WARNING Unused features The gadget doesn't appear to use the dynamic-height feature, although it requests it. Recommendation: Consider removing this line, so your gadget doesn't contain unnecessary javascript. I posted in: iGoogle Developers Forum: http://groups.google.com/group/Google-Gadgets-API/browse_thread/thread/2641fd314290e47a/f254007fee04d953?lnk=gst&q=Adjust+HEight#f254007fee04d953 http://groups.google.com/group/Google-Gadgets-API/browse_thread/thread/b9ccf30bb5fcc33c/288ce45f9586d184?lnk=gst&q=Adjust+HEight#288ce45f9586d184 The bug as reported on Shindig: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SHINDIG-1631 I exhanged several emails with Mark Weitzelm, president of Open Social who kindly helped me understand better all this. I exchanged also several emails with people involved in Shindig, but unfortunately this is a bug specific to the Google Gadgets API so they could not help in fixing it. I am still hoping a Google employee will read this, understand and escalate this 2 month old bug concerning a major feature (severe loss of functionlaity) in the Gadgets API.
