I guess so (server problem). I do assume, from the goodness of my soul, that the .NET classes do handle basic auth correctly. So there must be something different about this particular server implementation.

But, before I tried option b) I decided to give another chance to a) by
calling service.setUserCredentials. That did not work.
So, there is little something on the server that needs being tuned up.
