Hi, I'm posting here as it was suggested to me on my blog > http://rfobic.blogspot.com/2008/11/picasa-photo-viewer-linux-port-updated.html
Thing is that what I liked much in Picasa 3 was Photo Viewer app small and fast. That was what I really missed in Linux. You have a lot alternatives but .... Anyway as I liked Picasa Photo Viewer much I created sort kind of port of it even before Picasa beta for Linux appeared and was happily using it. I also created blog post (http:// googlephotos.blogspot.com/2008/10/picasa-3-beta-for-linux.html) to share the deb package with others who might also like to use it. I made deb package non compatible with picasa>=3 as I thought that it will be ported by you with the picasa 3. But some of the guys who downloaded the deb packages ran into a problem cause they had picasa 3 beta installed already so they asked me to fix it and I did. I actually changed a package a lot cause now I use picasa photo viewer from and winewrapper from Picasa 3 beta package itself (of course this package now requires picasa >=3 ). Anyway the thing I did is really tiny I just created simple bash script which converts uri of the fale was passed to it to the wine uri which comes with the picasa3 and runs wine with picasa photo viewer and passes this converted file path as an argument. Anyway I did not thought it had a sense to contribute that as there nothing really to contribute but as I wa asked to do that in the posts on the blog I thought it might have sense. P.S.: It looks like it makes some people happy so.. And yes I don't associate picasa photo viewer with the mime types cause I found it quite complicated to do, or maybe there's some easy way which I don't know and as far as I know it's different for gnome, kde, fluxbox... But I belive that installer also creates entry Picasa Photo Viewer under Applications > Graphic menu. (At least it does for debian based linuxes) regards --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google-Labs-Picasa-for-Linux" group.
