Thanks for the response! Picasa reduced the image quality for all 60 photos even though it claimed that only the 3 I'd rotated needed saving to disk. I have been digging around a bit, and there is a discussion of a quality reduction in the following thread: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Picasa/thread?tid=4620f77e0cbc9580&hl=en I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but it might be. Still, this doesn't explain why unmodified photos needed to be rewritten to disk.
