Under Kubuntu 9.04 ...

Download the Win version 3.5 and install under wine. Then copy
installed Picasa 3.5 from /home/igst/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/
Google/Picasa3 to /opt/google/picasa/3.0/wine/drive_c/Program Files/
Google/Picasa3 directory.

So far runs ok for me, now scanning faces, other things seem to work.
