Hello,
I don't know if this is the right forum but I have found many reports
about Picasa crashing on linux.

Background.
I installed Picasa 2.x On Ubuntu 9.10
and it crashed each time at startup.

After several reinstallations, I totally removed it and installed
Picasa 3.x.
The same behaviour.

After debugging wine with WINEDEBUG and also trying strace I stopped
and thinked.
What is the common to the crashes and particular to me?

Particular to me is my photo collection which was restored from my
portable disk on FAT32.
The collection has also been handled by Picasa 3.y on Windows before
and contains picasa.ini files.

Common to the crashes is that they occur a while after startup during
Picasas' detection of my photos.

After a while I isolated a folder.

I have concluded that to get the crash I have:
* A folder containts a picasa.ini (written by the "latest" windows
version of Picasa with face recognition on, probably not important)
* A photo IMG_1234.jpg original + modification is refered to in the
picasa.ini but the physical file is missing in the "Orignals" folder.

For others with that Picasa crashes I suggest to:
1. Rename your photo catalog, so that Picasa does not find any photos
at startup. If you do not get a crash you probably have the same issue
as I have/had.

2. If yes, then try to feed Picasa one folder at a time from your
collection to find the one that is the problem.

I hope it helps.

Best Regards
Peter
