Huh? ALL my pix are 1600 or less (I export on my machine to 1600 and then upload those rather than the originals), and I opened a new account when I got close to 1 GB. Was that unnecessary?

the problem is that picasa for linux (i think it should be the same
with picasa for windows and mac) can resize the file to 640 pixels,
1200 pixels, or 1600 pixels. (or original size)

I’d really like to upload photo at 2048 pixels.

(sorry for the bad english, it's not my native language)

No problem -- never would have guessed had you not blabbed. Most of us are Americans and it's not our native language either!
