Hi Tony- I think a general recommendation with loading lots of data in SWF files is to use Adobe's native format - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_Message_Format
Other than that, you could use a different binary format or XML. With E4X, there's native XML parsing in ActionScript3.
