Hey folks,

I just wanted to share a link to the pilot of a site I just finished using
Google Maps Flex. It's a pilot site that personalizes destination search by
letting users visualize where they can reach by sustainable transit
(walking, biking, public transit) and searching a variety of Philadelphia
data sources and other APIs. We're looking for feedback so any thoughts
y'all have would be greatly appreciated.

I had asked some questions in this forum about animating Overlays -- you can
see the feature I was talking about if you move the slider that controls how
long the user wants to travel for. The overlay appears to grow and shrink,
showing the transitspace increase as time increases. Unfortunately, the
solution ended up being complicated because overlays get cached as bitmaps
-- and if you use the custom overlay option, your bitmap will disappear if
the user zooms in because of Flash's bitmap maximum. So it was necessary to
replicate the logic that must be in the core Overlay class that clips the
bitmap to the visible viewport.

Google team -- if you are listening, it would be great if you supported
custom overlays that weren't cached as bitmaps, so we could continue to
access the components for animations and the like. Also, I'm excited that
development is starting back up on the Google Maps Flex API.

Thanks!
