Hiya Jeff, I'm not sure which one of these two methods would be best: 1. Use the lat/lngs that are used for drawing the polygon and this equation: http://www.mapforums.com/find-center-polygon-4042.html then use a custom marker that is the label and place at that lat/lng.
2. Use fromLatLngToPaneCoords to translate the lat/lngs into local coordinates then use an overlay to place the label using the formula above again to find the center (think this is only good if the map is not going to be interactive in general or you want the label to live outside the context of the map). My guess is solution 1 is better since it doesn't need to recalculate the position on each move, but depending on how much you can get to work within the context of a Marker you may end up needing to go with 2, try 1 first :). If you'd like some more direction on this or were just looking for a boxed solution let me know and I'll see if I can help anymore.
