I don't agree with this action to Google too. In our world, we don't stop the support of a technology this way, in overnight . If your system is centered and your clients acess your page, like a website, ok you has a key and should live for a time while write all in other tecnology. But if your system depends of the customers, the way changes!
You has a ready system and a new customer has acess it now. He has a different server, a different infra and you NEED of a new google key.
