Previously I was asking advice in this group on encoding my very large
polyline so that I could show the whole thing on my map. Thanks to
you all I got it figured out and working great. Unfortunately now the
line has gotten longer, and I'm encountering a new problem. The
actual time for the encoded line to show on the map seems to slow down
the browser to the point where it brings up a "script not responding"
box. If you continue it usually loads fine, but of course many
visitors to my site will not click continue, and of course it's quite
a wait as well.

The problem is not with my database or sending the encoded line string
to google - this seems to be pretty instant, and it's also not with
displaying the overlay. It seems to be google's actual initial
decoding of the encoded line. Once it's on the map all is good and
you can scroll around and zoom without problems. However, it also
seems to be browser/connection related... so I'm confused. On a good
computer with a good connection, there's no problem. With most older
machines the problem will occur it seems.

Does anyone have any advice for breaking it up... caching... any
techniques that can make it easier for the browser? This line should
at least double in length, so I'm going to need to do something.

The site in question is my blog at http://www.wanderinglost.com/index.php

Thanks again,
Josh
