Thanks very much for that detailed reply.
I'll need some time to investigate and digest it all - and this is a
long term project.
I'll have a look and see if I could use Excel to process the KML file
(eg strip the category and swap the lat/lgn fields)
I appreciate the trouble you've gone to.
