Yes I've looked at all these and a whole lot more and as I mentioned
above, they turn off all the markers at map load or have them all
clicked on.  I need to have some icon markers still hidden at map load
and only the icon markers that have a check mark in the selection box
showing as shown in the map example mentioned above at the
damngoodradio web site.  I just don't understand his coding to do what
I want to do with my coding because of his adding the drop down boxes.
If you know what I need to change, add, or remove, great, otherwise
I've studied all the posts and examples and whatever I can, even back
to 2007 posts, but can't come up with the way to do this.  I
especially prefer to have my map code be without the use of any need
for calling external files like XML, css or whaterver so that all the
coding is right there in the code and easily changeable, add to able,
or removed without changing any thing else.  Most all the posts here
about hiding icon markers etc. are dealing with external files being
called so I can't study what they are working with.  Thank for the
suggestions,
