I've known for a long time that google maps geocoding service has a US
bias concerning cities with ambigious names.

For instance 'brisbane' is geocoded as San Francisco, not QLD, AUS.
Johannasburg is geocoded in Minnesota, not South Africa.

I thought this was just something that would have to be lived with and
I have been trying to correct it in my data as much as I can.

But then I came across Geonames.org which resolves the ambiguity (I
assume) by using population size.
I am pretty sure that this is very effective, and would be great to
see in the maps api.

Is there any way of doing this right now? Have I missed something?
