Do mobile phones support VML / SVG / CANVAS ?
A server solution like Google's "mapsdt" has some benefits:
Images can be displayed by a less sophistocated device
Images are cacheable at the server
Images are cacheable at the browser
Large JSON files do not have to be sent across a slow connection
Perhaps you consider static maps to be a legal alternative to the
dynamic maps API for full featured browsers. Without legal access to
Google's tiles, it is the only game in town. The API is too bloated &
too buggy.
