If you don't want to learn to use the API, you can create a Google My
Map and embed that.

Create your My Map by going to maps.google.com clicking "My Maps" and
"Create new map". You can change the colour of a marker by clicking on a
marker when in "Edit" mode and using the icon tool from the top corner
of the info window.

When you've got your My Map looking the way you want it, you can embed
it in the same way that you embedded your first map. It will be linked
dynamically, so when you change your My Map in the future, the embedded
map will reflect the changes a short while later (the data gets cached
for a while).
