Probably.  If you don't specify a particular API version you could be
served a different one every week.

I don't think Google will be testing the behaviour of new releases
against any combination of failures to follow their recommendations
though ;)   It may well be that you can get away with it in earlier
versions, but not now.  At least you can fix it properly now.
