I am developing a simple api where a user can enter a location and see which species of seashell has been found using a .kml overlay of shell locations. The trouble I'm having is that in most cases, a single location (one marker) may yield several individual species. Meaning, if I go to a spot on the beach, I'm likely to pick up several different shells at that one spot, but it is considered one point or one location on the map.
I would like opinions from others as to how they may have handled seeing the data for multiple occurrences at the same point location - and more specifically, how was this data viewed/conveyed to the public? Ultimately, I'd like to show all individuals found at each location. One idea I had was to have the map as half of the page, and once a marker is clicked, the resulting species are displayed on the right. Other ideas/suggestions?
