Does this image you are trying to tile, actually have anything to do with a map? The API CAN be used to display tiled images that aren't actually related to the surface of the earth at all, but I believe you then have to think up some imaginary locations for it. I'm just wondering if that's why you're having trouble deciding what the lats and longs should be.
