I'm trying to solve a focus-related problem to no avail.

In brief, I've discovered that if you're on a page with a Google map,
then click in the window's toolbar to begin typing a new URL (or a
search phrase), then click back on the map, the focus does not switch
to the map or the document it is in. The cursor keeps blinking in the
toolbar.

However, if you click anywhere else in the document, the toolbar does
lose focus.

Why does the toolbar maintain focus even when the map is clicked in
this situation? Any way around this?

I want the focus to switch to the map (or to the document) so that my
custom keyboard event handler will start receiving events.
