It's this in your CSS -

#page #content ul.repeat_img_p li img{
        background-color:#e5e5e5;

Notice the shadow is present but has a grey background
The marker click target is a seperate img as well, laid over the
marker img proper, and is normally transparent, but the CSS makes it
grey.
