Yes, on two counts.

We can't debug a code listing easily. OK, it's possible, but it's far
easier to get Firebug or something like that to help.

The free API **requires** a publicly available map, although it can be
used for development on a private network. If you never intend to
publish your map, you are contravening the Terms of Service. See
paragraph 9.1 at http://code.google.com/apis/maps/terms.html [and also
see reason number 4 in "Why post a link"]
