I would also put my vote to ClusterMarker.  Here's a quick example
from a page I'm developing: http://tinyurl.com/clux3w

If you really want to see it in action with a fair amount of marrkers,
use the date search and put the date range from May 1 - May 31 2008.
It will load about 5,000 markers
