What was your reason for sending your visitors the Google home page to see the marker on a map?
Over here in the Google maps API, what we're doing is putting interactive maps into our own pages. To get a sense of what's possible, check out the tutorials by Mike Williams, at <http://econym.org.uk/gmap/>. A very friendly introduction, with simple technically correct maps illustrating each concept.
