I've often run into this problem too the last... few months or so?. I see the problem most often in Firefox, but then again I mostly work in Firefox. (in 2,3 and 3.5, both Mac and Windows versions. Sometimes the normal, sometimes Portable Firefox.) Firebug is installed (different versions, newest is 1.3.3) where I work, so it might be related to the problem. It happens with my own webapplication which uses Google Maps but also with the Google maps code we use at the company I work at.
