Yes that's what I meant. Web pages need to set IE's compatibility
mode. Or users need to stop using IE8!

My use of the word "interpretation" was over your output of a latitude/
longitude as something like (234,188) instead of (37.4419, -122.1419)
-- that is, in pixels rather than degrees. But as you say, it looks
like Google have done that too.

Quite why theirs should work in IE8 and yours doesn't I have no idea.
I don't use IE8, quite deliberately.
