I didn't post just a "code fragment" - I posted a complete
reproduction of the problem using Google's own Code Playground.

Unfortunately, Google's Code Playground does not generate clickable
URLs, which is why I didn't link to it. I think you'd be even more
annoyed if I posted a link to my page, since you'd have to sign up to
use the application, and then you wouldn't be able to access the map
in question because it belongs to a different user.

I've written a demo page that shows the problem:
