Your CSS forces the click targets, which sit above the markers and are 
normally invisible, to become solid white. The actual marker images are 
underneath.

In http://jimpix.co.uk/css1/fresh.css this line makes all the 
transparent bits of all images on the page become opaque white. The 
padding and border settings are also not helpful, but not as damaging.

img { padding:2px; background-color:#fff; border:1px solid #ccc; }
